Collection: Colin J Davies
Colin Davies is a contemporary fine artist living in Wales. Following a career in education he traded life as a headteacher for that of a professional painter in 2019.
After 'taking the plunge' into the professional art world, Colin worked for a short period as partner in a Fine Art Gallery near his home in Mumbles. Following this, he moved on to develop his artistic journey and 'learn the trade' on a wider front. He currently concentrates on building his portfolio and furthering his knowledge and experience by painting daily.
Using mainly oil and acrylic paints, Colin's rich and expressive style is created with the generous application of paint using a swift, tumultuous sweep of a palette knife, often followed with more detailed brushwork application.
Inspired by the beautiful coastline and mountains of Wales, much of his work depicts the power and vitality of the ocean. His atmospheric representation of the drama and rugged beauty of the Gower coastline, in particular, is regularly exhibited and increasingly collected across the UK and internationally. When not producing work for galleries and exhibition, Colin organises adult painting tutorials and regularly demonstrates or provides workshops to art groups and societies across the country.
“I love to sit watching the sea whipped into a wind blown frenzy, to listen to the waves crash in a ferocity of noise and power. My aim is to paint that noise, to communicate the drama of the unstoppable presence of sweeping, grabbing water cascading inland with pounding fury.
As a self-taught artist, I'm keen to learn and continue to develop my style and skills. Meeting and working with other artists and collectors is a true privilege. Perhaps most gratifying, is the realisation of a life long dream and knowing that what I love doing is appreciated by those kind enough to hang my paintings on their walls."
